You Have a New Memory self descriptions

Why are we asking for a self description?

• We have been developing image descriptions for visual elements of the exhibition, to give blind audiences a way of experiencing these
  
• Your video portrait is an important visual element
  
• The description of you within your video portrait will be linked within the catalogue, and become part of the permanent collection record
  
• The description of your video portrait will be recorded and included in the audio version of the slideshow. This audio version will be available to all, but especially offered as an access point for blind audiences
  
• We would like to give you the opportunity to say how you wish to be identified and described

• You do not need to draft a full description. You can just send us a list of words or phrases that you feel are important to mention. We can turn this into a draft for you. (However, if you feel strongly that you wish to draft the full description yourself, please do!)
  
• You can also share words or phrases that describe unseen characteristics of yourself, or aspects of your identity, that you feel are important to mention. (For example, you might want to acknowledge your cultural or gender identity. Or maybe you wore a special item of clothing because you designed it yourself, or it’s connected to your story or family … )

What steps are involved?

• We’ll send you a personalised link to your video portrait by email
  
• Email us back any descriptive words or phrases by Wednesday 22 July
  
• We’ll draft a description and share with you by email
