Learning

ALL offers a variety of teaching and learning formats for individuals, organisations, collectives and institutions. Our focus is on introducing ideas, methods and tools with the potential to radically expand sensory, multisensory and intersensory access for artists, commissioning organisations and audiences.

These include:

Online workshops
For access practitioners around the world, and a favoured option for those especially vulnerable to Covid, we can produce and deliver presentations or interactive workshops including:
  • Introduction to access
  • A case study: ~~~~~“…derelict in uncharted space…”
  • Liberating audiodescription
  • [reading] [sounds] (a captioning workshop)

In-person workshops
Uncharted Space: Access and Creative Practice is a half-day workshop that invites participants to collaborate on audiodescription, describing sounds and collaborative real-time captioning.

Artists who are interested in offering greater access to audiences and collaborators often wonder where to begin. How can we work out what kinds of access strategies align with our individual or collective ethics, politics, or distinctive creative practices? How can access be approached as a generative space for creative practice, rather than an afterthought? The workshop will involve sharing methods and principles for innovating access through case studies and playful exercises. It will also touch on possibilities for access to expand the ambitions of text works and publishing, including textural printing, AI audio-texts, and letterforms that are ethically and culturally resonant.

Tailored learning
You might be keen to grow your collective literacy in image descriptions, or to encourage artists in your orbit to make access a part of their work from the very beginning. Your specific context likely has specific needs.

With experience in writing and delivering workshops and tertiary coursework, ALL can devise and produce a tailored learning programme with and for you.

Bachelors and Masters studios
As university lecturers and tutors with a strong focus on supporting burgeoning creative practice, we’ve written and taught courses on intersensory digital publishing, composing sound spatially, tactile and gestural typography, and access-led communication design. If you’re looking to host similar studios and subjects at your higher learning institution, talk to us.
